Creative Art Therapy Practices To Support Mental Health

SEL through Art Therapy: Three art therapists discuss mental health needs and share creative practices that support mental health and a stronger learning environment for all. The panel explores the learning environments of the past school year and how they impact the mental health of returning students. Holly discusses common warning signs for mental health needs and effective art practices and explores how best to support students with social emotional needs including students with autism and neuro-diverse thinkers. April presents programs that helped increase literacy and decrease stigma around mental health and how she used art-based programming to decrease stress and boost socialization. Katie addresses the mental health needs of teachers and faculty. She will review professional burnout and the impact of the emotional labor and will share creative practices that support expressing, processing, and sharing of emotions and experiences to reduce stress and increase professional satisfaction.
