Empower Our Students – Rethink Our Expectations
July 21, 2021
Given the current state of the world we live in, our students are continually being challenged to adapt to new formats of learning, all while being expected to maintain regulation, focus and the ability to acquire new material. This session delves into the notion that we, as educators, need to rethink our own expectations of what effective teaching looks like and what the ‘bigger picture’ really is for our students. It discusses ways in which we can connect with parents and caregivers on a consultative/coaching basis in order to foster effective learning environments and provide the social emotional support our special education students need most. We will discuss the idea of ‘goal-shifting’ and how to first meet the needs of your students before academics come into play. This session is designed to provide educators and parents/caregivers with tangible social emotional learning and distance learning strategies and supports for special education students across ability levels.
