Teach SEL Through Everyday Learning in Your Classroom and Throughout Your School
July 21, 2021
Students need social and emotional skills to navigate all aspects of school successfully. They need to work with diverse partners when conferring about math problems, manage impulsivity as they listen to directions and move through the halls, and practice self-awareness as they revise their writing. This means that SEL can’t be something that is treated as a separate stand alone subject area–instead it needs to be woven into the fabric of every aspect of school. In order to have SEL part of the fabric in schools, school leaders and their staffs need to practice and model SEL skills while building a sustainable model. Brian Hastings and Mike Anderson, two dynamic and experienced educators, will share practices for weaving SEL strategies into academic instruction and into broad based building and district-wide work. Participants will leave with big ideas to consider, practical strategies to try, and a robust set of online resources to support their further learning and implementation.
