Meeting Learners Where They Are:
Being Proactive with Pre-Assessment in Virtual and Blended Environments
July 21, 2021 – 10:00AM to 10:50AM
Learning and SEL: This session will explore how to design pre-assessments that invite students into learning (in whatever format that might be) and heighten our awareness of student needs. Designed properly, pre-assessment signals to students that their teachers know them, care about them, and will do their very best to meet them wherever they are. By choosing pre-assessment prompts that are few but powerful, we can determine what students already understand and are able to do as well as where they will need support. In addition, we can determine if they feel connected to – and represented in – the classroom, as well as what might motivate them to engage and persist in learning.
